MROP Exam *Webcam and Smartphone Required*
Your Path to FCC Licensing
We are excited to help you achieve your licensing goals! To ensure a smooth experience from registration to your final certificate, please review the following steps and policies.
1. Preparation & Registration
Before you sign up for an FCC Element Exam, you must create an FCC user profile and obtain an FRN (FCC Registration Number). This unique ID is required for all licensing actions.
Included Guide: To make things easier, a downloadable instruction guide for creating your FRN is included with your exam fee. You will receive this link via email immediately after purchase (please check your spam/junk folder if it doesn't appear in your inbox).
Step-by-Step Help: Click here to view a video that walks through the process.
2. Scheduling Your Exam
Please note that your registration includes one exam attempt conducted via a live online proctor.
How to Book: You must contact Explorers Guide at 920-733-5500 to schedule your appointment. We strongly recommend calling prior to your purchase to ensure your preferred date is available.
Technical Requirements: Because the exam is live-proctored, you will need a webcam, a stable internet connection, and a smartphone.
Rush Appointments: If you need to schedule an exam to be taken within 48 hours, a rush fee will apply. This fee must be paid via a separate payment link before the exam begins.
3. After the Exam: Finalizing Your License
Once you pass, our COLEM (Commercial Operator License Examination Manager) reviews your results and submits them to the FCC.
The FCC Fee: As of April 19, 2022, the FCC requires a $35 application fee. Once your results are processed, you will receive a payment link directly from the FCC. This fee is paid to the government, not to Explorers Guide, and is required for your license to be issued.
90-Day Operational Privilege: We can issue a passing certificate that allows you to operate for 90 days while your permanent license is being processed. This requires completing the FCC application we email to you. Please ask us for details when you call to book. Note: If the FCC declines your application for any reason, this certificate becomes invalid and is non-refundable.
Important Policies
To provide the best service to all our candidates, we maintain the following policies:
Cancellations: A $25 cancellation fee applies to any appointment cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice. This must be paid before you can reschedule.
Retakes: If an additional attempt is needed, a $25 proctoring fee will be charged for each retake.
Refunds: Please note that this exam service is non-refundable.
Technical Readiness Checklist
Prepare for Your Live-Proctored Exam
To ensure your exam day is stress-free and technically smooth, please complete this checklist at least 24 hours before your appointment. We recommend testing your setup in the same room where you plan to take the exam.
1. Equipment Check
[ ] Webcam: Ensure your camera is functional and clean. The proctor needs a clear view of your face and the room.
[ ] Smartphone: Have your smartphone fully charged. It will be used as a secondary camera or for the check-in process.
[ ] Power Supply: Keep your computer plugged into a power source. Do not rely on battery power during the exam.
2. Internet & Audio
[ ] Stable Connection: A wired Ethernet connection is best. If using Wi-Fi, ensure you are close to the router.
[ ] Speed Test: Visit Fast.com or Speedtest.net. We recommend a minimum upload/download speed of 2 Mbps.
[ ] Microphone & Speakers: Ensure your audio is working. Headsets/earbuds are typically not allowed—you must use your computer’s built-in speakers and mic so the proctor can hear the room.
3. Your Testing Environment
[ ] Privacy: Choose a quiet, private room where you will not be interrupted.
[ ] Clear Workspace: Your desk should be clear of all books, notes, and extra electronics.
[ ] Lighting: Ensure the room is well-lit. Avoid sitting directly in front of a bright window (which can make you look like a silhouette on camera).
4. Browser & Software
[ ] Browser: Use the latest version of Google Chrome or Firefox. The exam software is not comparable with Safari (apples default browser for iOS and Mac)
[ ] Updates: Check that your computer isn't scheduled for an automatic "System Update" during your exam window.
Pro-Tip: If you share your internet with others, ask them to avoid streaming high-definition video or gaming during your exam to ensure you have maximum bandwidth.
